Questions and answers about NVA registration

Find answers to frequently asked questions about resultat registration in the new Norwegian Research Information Repository (Nasjonalt vitenarkiv, NVA).
  • In order to be able to register results in NVA, you must have an active institutional affiliation in the system. Scientific staff shall automatically get access to register in NVA. Other staff who publish and need to register their publications in NVA, can request access. If you are unable to register new publications when you log in to NVA, contact the user support curator at your faculty.

  • When you register a chapter in a book (e.g. an edited volume), it must be linked to the book. If you cannot find the book in NVA, you have to register it. Afterwards, you can register book chapters and link them to the book.

  • On the "contributors" tab, click "Identify contributor" for any author (or other contributor type). Select the right person (incl. affiliation) from the list.
Note: Spelling (e.g. middle names vs. initials) affects search results; it may help to search by first and last name only. To identify yourself, you can also use the "add me" button.

  • In order for results registered in NVA to be displayed on your researcher profile (and your employee page on nord.no), you must be an identified contributor (most often: author). The easiest way to check if your are identified, is to see if your name appears underlined on the results page.

  • For results to become visible in NVA, you must click "Publish registration" in the right hand margin. Otherwise, the registration will remain in your drafts and only be visible for you.

Go to "My page", choose "Result registrations" and status "Draft" to find and publish started result registrations.

  • In order to be able to edit a result in NVA, you must either have registered it yourself, or you must be an identified contributor (most often: author). If the publication has been registered by a co-author, contact him/her and ask them to identify you.

  • Scholarly journal articles and PhD theses must be uploaded in NVA; uploading other scholarly publications, e.g. book chapters, is recommended. Due to challenges with copyright clearance, upload of full-text to other, non-scholarly categories (e.g. conference presentations, lectures, feature articles) is closed. You can always register metadata (information about e.g. the presentation).

  • In order for a project registered in NVA to appear on your researcher profile, you must be registered and identified as a project member. Contact the project manager or the person who registered the project, and ask them to help you with this.

  • For student and PhD theses that are registered with full-text in NVA, only the institution who has granted the degree can edit the result in NVA. If you have completed your master's or doctoral degree at Nord University, contact Ingrid Nekså or openaccess@nord.no, respectively. If you wish to make changes to the NVA result for a master's or doctoral degree completed at another institution, please contact the institution directly (see Sikt's overview of NVA contact persons at other institutions).

  • In order to register publications such as journal articles, book chapters or books in NVA, the publishing channel (journal or publisher) must be registered in the Norwegian Channel Register. It is possible to create a new channel directly in NVA; however, this will only be available in NVA. If you want your publication to receive publication points, you must suggest the channel to HK-dir for approval to level 1. This can be done on HK-dir's website.
